La version française du Manuel de la voie est plus complète que les deux premières éditions allemandes : elle contient notamment des explications supplémentaires sur la caténaire, sa construction et sa maintenance,
de même que les derniers enseignements sur le « head checking » et des résultats pratiques récents sur la résistance à l’usure des rails à champignon durci.
Elle décrit en outre la théorie de la stabilisation dynamique de la voie, les performances des cribleuses, le lien avec la qualité du criblage et la récupération du ballast. Les chapitres « Interaction roue-rail » et « Coûts de possession » sont, eux aussi, plus complets que dans les deux premières éditions.
