ERTMS for class 253 locomotives

Spanish Renfe Mercancías has awarded Alstom a contract for the supply and installation of the ERTMS Baseline 3 system for twenty-eight class 253 locomotives. The contract is worth EUR 11.2 million. The project was put out to tender in March 2023 with the aim of facilitating interoperability between the different networks and improving traffic safety and freight traffic management. According to the defined implementation plans, the work must be completed by 31 December 2025. (jsh)
