Bold visions and practical implementation - where does signalling and safety technology stand?
Rarely have there been higher expectations of the contribution signalling and safety technology can make to the transfer of traffic onto rail: The ETCS rollout in Germany is receiving widespread attention. At the same time, road traffic is working tirelessly on autonomous driving. The role rail transport can play in the future is highlighted in presentations made at this year’s Signal+Draht Congress.
This is followed by a thematic block on the communication system; as a high-performance and secure data communication is nevertheless a prerequisite for a sustainable modernisation of the signalling technology up to and including automated driving. Based on this, the state of play concerning automated driving (ATO) is presented with reference to specific projects. The subjects range from ETCS from the perspective of a non-state infrastructure operator and the requirement for a transport management system to the practical implementation of IT security in control and safety technology using artificial intelligence.
A podium discussion on the question “Can the Sector Manage the Transition?” and the Signal+Draht lifetime achievement award given to an outstanding personality round off the 19th Signal+Draht Conference.
